Amateur Radio Operators (Volunteers)

Amateur Radio operators, aka ham radio operators, play a significant role in providing communication support during major disasters. Hawaii and City Civil Defense as well as the Honolulu Police Department Emergency Operating Centers are equipped with Amateur Radio Equipment.

Presently there are about 96 Licensed Amateur Radio operators in Ewa Beach with 45 operators living in Ewa by Gentry.

I am in the porcess of identifying Hams who would like to participate in a more active role in our community should the need arise.

BillyG Sponsors the Hawaii Ham Radio Forum and is the custodian of the KH6JPL repeater located atop Mauna Kapu. This repeater was the only ham radio communications available between the islands of Kauai and Oahu during hurricane Iniki. It providing communications that coordinated the transfer of 50 Dialysis patients from Kauai to Oahu for emergency care. See the Iniki Story.
